VA Maine Healthcare's Adaptive Sports and Outpatient Recreational Therapy (RT) program is growing by leap and bounds. The Adapted Sports program is really taking off, so let's help spread the word to our Veterans.

Thanks in part to partnerships with volunteers Ed and Janet Stanhope and Christy Gardner, and community programs such as Vets on the Water, V.A.S.T, Maine Adaptive, Project Healing Waters and Northeast Passage, Recreational Therapy is now able to offer adaptive sports opportunities four days a week to their Veteran population.

Programs include ice fishing, fresh and salt water fishing, fly tying, air rifle, adaptive cycling, archery, wheelchair basketball, alpine and cross country skiing, snow shoeing, orienteering and sled hockey just to name a few.

Recreational Therapy staff also facilitate goal driven aquatics and open gym programs, and offer 1:1 programming in the areas such as community reintegration, leisure education, and stress management.
