David J. Shulkin, M.D., VA Under Secretary for Health, visited VA Boston's Jamaica Plain campus to speak at the National Partnership Council meeting July 23, 2015. Dr. Shulkin toured the JP campus and got a chance to meet staff and Veterans. Along his tour of VA Boston, Dr. Shulkin visited the Biorepository, which is a critical component of the Million Veteran Program (MVP), a national research program that aims to improve the healthcare of Veterans. Mary Brophy, M.D., M.P.H., Director, VISN 1 Clinical Trials Network, guided the Biorepository tour. The Biorepository is one of the largest genetic databases about military exposure, lifestyle, and health information. Boston was the first site to begin recruitment into MVP.

Innovations like MVP and the Biorepository are just two examples of the many firsts that have begun in VISN 1. Led by the Clinical Trials Network, VISN 1 studies, programs and consortia will be a major factor in keeping VISN 1 on the cutting-edge of medical research.
