Blind Rehabilitation Program

The Eastern Blind Rehabilitation Service (EBRS) Center in West Haven, CT provides inpatient and outpatient services in an area that covers 15 states from Maine to West Virginia.

The EBRS consists of three components: 

  • the Inpatient Blind Rehabilitation Program;>
  • the Inpatient Computer Access Training Program; and 
  • the Outpatient Team, comprised of the full-time Visual Impairment Service Team (VIST) Coordinator and Blind Rehabilitation Outpatient Specialist (BROS), and part-time Low Vision Specialist and Low Vision Optometrist.

Outpatient services are available throughout the network through facility VIST Coordinators and BROS Specialists.

Assessment and training is offered in low vision, orientation and mobility, living skills, manual skills, computer access training, communication skills, activities of daily living, visual skills, and social/recreational activities.

The veteran is also assisted in making an emotional and behavioral adjustment to blindness through individual counseling sessions and group therapy meetings.
