Words from our Heroes

If you won’t take our word for it, how about the word of some of your fellow Veterans? Below are testimonials of Veterans and their experiences with VA health care.

Bill

"After returning home from Iraq, I required surgery and physical rehabilitation because of injuries I sustained while deployed.  The VA staff was friendly and professional.  I was nervous at first, but by the end of the process I actually found myself looking forward to seeing the members of my rehab team.  They truly made me feel like we were going through rehab together instead of feeling all alone.  I still use the tools that I learned while in rehab at the VA and feel that without them I would not be where I am today.  I volunteer at the VA now so that I can be part of that team and help other Veterans like myself."

"I have been going to the Lowell VA outpatient clinic and the Jamaica Plain VA Medical Center since 1957 and have always been treated with respect and professionalism.  I have been fortunate enough to be able to receive my medical prescriptions from VA as well.  I have never had to wait an unreasonable amount of time for service or for any medical care."

"I started going to the VA in 2012. What I like best about the VA is that they take my health concerns seriously. When I go in to see my primary care provider, she always does a comprehensive examination and if she doesn’t find anything wrong she orders additional tests just to ensure that she doesn’t miss anything. In the community where I used to get my treatment my primary care manager often discarded my problems. Its nice to know that my VA primary care manager cares as much about my health as I do."

"After receiving an honorable discharge from the Marines, I soon found myself being a homeless Veteran who was plagued with PTSD, hearing loss, chronic back and knee pain, arthritis, and other issues.  It was my mother who finally convinced me to go to the VA and I am glad that she did.  The people I met there were awesome.  Not only did they help me with some of the physical ailments I was experiencing, but they also assisted me with learning how to cope with PTSD.  I soon found myself in the VA’s vocational rehabilitation program and have successfully completed bachelor and master degrees in social work - with the full intent of using my experience and education to help other Veterans.  I recommend VA health care to every Veteran I encounter."

"My first experience with VA health care was in 2011.  I was losing my hearing and a friend of mine suggested I go to the VA for a hearing test.  After three months of him pushing me to go, I finally went to the Lowell VA outpatient clinic and enrolled in VA health care.  My experience on that day was excellent.  The staff could not have been more helpful or pleasant.  They enrolled me in the system, assigned me to a primary care physician, and made my first appointment - which was within two weeks.

Ever since, my experience with VA health care has been nothing but extraordinary.  A well trained staff and a medical team of the highest quality.  I would and do recommend VA health care to all my Veteran friends."

"Contacting the VA was one of the first things I did when I returned home from Afghanistan, the week after Thanksgiving, in 2011.  Once assisted by the Operation Enduring Freedom / Operation Iraqi Freedom team at Bedford VA Medical Center, I found my care to be top notch and I quickly built a rapport with my primary care doctor.  It was great to be surrounded by other Veterans who had the same shared experiences.  Today, I use the VA for nearly all of my health care because of the helpful and professional staff that I have encountered at my VA hospital."
