VA New England Healthcare System
VISN 1 Career Development Award
VISN 1 Career Development Award (V1CDA) is intended to assist junior investigators in their research careers and to enable them to successfully compete for further research funding. This award provides two years of salary support for mentored research to highly qualified scientists with demonstrated abilities. Nominees must express a clear commitment to a VA career and enlist the support of at least one appropriately qualified VA mentor.
The VISN 1 Strategic Objective on Suicide Prevention is supporting initiatives in the areas of clinical care, education, and research. In order to advance the research portion of the strategic initiative on suicide prevention, the VISN will be supporting one additional CDA focused on suicide prevention. The top-ranked proposal with a focus on suicide prevention will receive this funding. Other proposals with a focus on suicide prevention will compete in the general pool for the other four CDA awards that are normally funded by the VISN. Any meritorious proposal with a focus on suicide prevention—ranging from basic science to clinical and health services interventions—will be considered. Applicants should indicate in their letter of intent whether they intend to focus on suicide prevention.
All awards will start October 1, 2021. Please see the new timeline below.
The deadline for submitting a Letter of Intent is April 2, 2021. More information can be found under Request for Applications.
Any questions about the program or the application process should be addressed to Dr. Kristin Mattocks, VISN 1 Research Lead (Kristin.Mattocks@va.gov).
